Why [Michi Labo]

My name is... not Michi. Michi is one of the nicknames I have, used across my social media platforms. So that part of the business name for digital marketing consultancy/ agency was easily decided. What came after was more deliberated on.

It had to be Michi something. I also wanted something short and sweet, easily typed and remembered. I cycled through a few names, such as Michi Marketing, Michi Factory, which were cute but also one syllable too many for me.
I actually wanted to name the business Michi Lab, taking on the shortened form of the word Laboratory. I was fixated on the idea of a place where things came to be.
Michi Lab would be where I churn my ideas, add a dash of this suggestion to a drop of that application, and ensure the lab doesn't blow up. Hopefully.

Unfortunately for me, that name was already taken. I was unwilling to give up on the name, however, and settled on a compromise, similar to one of my favourite Japanese drugstore skincare brands.
And thus, Michi Labo was born in early 2026! An easy-to-remember four syllable business name.
The full name is really Michi Labo Consulting, because the Companies Commission of Malaysia said it had to be clear what the business was. However, for non-legal and easy-to-type purposes, Michi Labo is good enough.
It's been a few months of running Michi Labo, and I've been blessed enough to have short-term and long-term clients who believe in me throughout these months.
Being self-employed is a whole new ball game for me, given that I have always been employed full-time throughout my career.
I won't write out being employed full-time once more should the opportunity arise. However, having Michi Labo has definitely given me new learning experiences that I just would not be able to get elsewhere.
For example, website design. Companies aren't going to train me, a marketer, in this. They would just expect me to already come in with random ad-hoc skills equipped. I designed the Michi Labo website myself (okay, with the help of easy-to-use elements), from copy to website placement to rearranging elements and sections over and over again. It's not fancy, but that's also not my usual style anyway. I love a good minimalist look.
I am sure that running Michi Labo will continue to give me more new learning experiences and skills that would easily help me adapt to and challenge whatever comes in my career, rather than remaining stagnant somewhere which does not appreciate me.
I am also ready for more new clients. If you are a brand looking for influencer marketing/ social media marketing/ writing help, please drop your details in the contact form!
