What is Michi Labo

Michi Labo Consulting is a labour of love, meaning, and maybe... a little recklessness.

Hello, I'm Michi. I'm an influencer marketing specialist and consultant based in Malaysia, working with brands and marketing teams across APAC. You can often find me on the medium screen (my laptop) or my small screen (my phone).

When I'm not working or writing, I will be on my small-medium screen (e-reader) or buried in a book.

This is my writing space for business, books, and human observations, both professional and personal.

I have worked for over a decade, starting as a hapless magazine writer, to now a more seasoned marketer, writer, and constant learner.

In marketing world, tools, metrics, and trends change fast. Sometimes, too fast. I myself am running to keep up.

However, the one constant is that people crave good stories: to be entertained, to be educated, and to be excited.

At the core of it all, people crave community, validation, and aspire to better themselves.

Nothing brings people together faster than stories they can understand and relate to. People flock together to share stories, to create a sense of community.

Some people call this gossiping. Others call it networking.

Whatever it's called, bringing people together to make a great story is where I come in as part of Michi Labo Consulting.

I have worked in influencer marketing for almost a decade, and as a writer for almost two decades. I started young for the latter, writing copy for family businesses even as a teenager.

I have written articles, business emails, press releases, ad scripts, Instagram captions, and even ghostwritten for a CEO in their media replies.

My love for writing then led me further into marketing, as good, clear writing is the basis of all marketing communication. I was interested to learn what clicked and what didn't with people digitally.

I delved into PR, media relations, brand event organisation, and finally, found myself nestled within the influencer and social media marketing scene since.

Nothing beats a notebook for thinking campaigns through and remembering important points

I worked in-house for seven years, and was constantly told "Michi, you should start your own agency!"

So here I am, with my little agency, lucky enough to work with clients and influencers across the globe for the past few months.

I have a good network of influencers across APAC, covering multiple niches like F&B to finance. My clients and connections have led me to learn a little bit about each different industry, most recently the fintech world where I learned what stablecoins and gas fees were.

Knowing languages like English, Mandarin, Malay, and Japanese has also opened up a world of opportunities.
